LG webOS TV Remote : most common problems and their solutions

I have an error when trying to connect using "Search" but not always.

Unfortunally it can happen that sometimes the Search does not find the TV. You will then need to retry clicking on Search again. Else you can specify the TV IP (see further below).

If you have errors when trying to connect to the TV

Make sure that your TV is running under webOS and is an LG Television.
Some old LG televisions are running under SmartTV and are not compatible.

If you are using "Search" : please verify if Universal Plug&Play (uPNP) is activated for your network (it is usually configured on your router/modem).

Check if your TV and your phone are connected to the same Wifi network.

Verify if "LG Connect" Apps is turned on on your TV. You will find it in the TV Settings, under Network. Click on "LG Connect Apps" and make sure that "ON" is showing on top. Else click on the "OFF" button in order to make it "ON".


Please also be aware that if you just turned on the TV it might take like 1 minute before it can start to be controlled by a smartphone.

If you want to try connecting by specifying the TV IP address be aware that depending on your network setup, this one may change regularly. You can find your TV IP under the Settings menu , Network, Wifi connection, Advanced settings, It is the serie of 4 numbers separated by dots ex 192.168.0.14. Enter this under the IP box in the options and in the main screen use "IP".

If this does not work still please restart your phone and power off and power on your TV and try again.

Do this check in order to verify if the issue could be simply linked to your network.

If you tried all the above solutions try desinstalling and reinstalling the application.

Can i turn on the TV with the application?

Please use the normal remote. Turning on the TV via any smartphone is not possible as you need to have the TV running for the application to connect. (current limitation of webOS / TV).

When i press on some keys nothing happens (ex PROGRAM  or any key on the numpad ..)

Please check if those keys are working on the normal remote. Depending on the source being used some functions might not be available.

The remote keyboard is not working

The remote keyboard feature is only working with the normal TV on screen keyboard below. If another one like an application specific one (ex Youtube LG Store App), this will not be supported.



You can activate the "auto switch to keyboard" in the application options. Once it will be possible to enter text the keyboard will appear automatically.

The central =>* (channe list) button on the volume screen is always deactivated,i cannot click on it

If no supported channels were found the button will stay deactivated.
